Western Cape police officer accused of murder out on bail

The officer made his second appearance in the Tulbagh Magistrates Court on Wednesday following his arrest a week ago.

CAPE TOWN - A police officer attached to the Tulbagh Crime Prevention Unit, who is accused of murder has been granted R1,000 bail.

The officer made his second appearance in the Tulbagh Magistrates Court on Wednesday following his arrest a week ago.

He's accused of shooting and killing a 40-year-old man while officials were attempting to arrest the deceased and his brother last month.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s Phaladi Shuping said: "Sergeant Jonathan Waterboer was arrested by IPID on the 13th of June. He was yesterday granted bail of R1,000 and his case was postponed to 29 September 2024 for further investigations."
