Lester Kiewit speaks to Abongile Cokie, SABC Group Manager.
The SABC Plus app has been upgraded with a new look and more features.
Since December 2023 to 3 July 2024, SABC Plus users could only live stream SABC television and radio channels, says Cokie.
From 3 July 2024, changes to the app includes a reintroduction of SABC Plus where users will have to sign in to use the app, live radio and tv is back, podcasts, vodcasts and video on-demand content has made a comeback with more news channels, adds Cokie.
SABC Plus also extended their platform capabilities for Apple TV Box (tvOS) with options for Google TV (currently in the works), Huawei and Android users.
For users worried about data usage, Cokie recommends minimising streaming quality to save data or downloading content on SABC Plus when you have access to Wi-Fi for watching later.
"It's important to keep a happy South Africa through public broadcast content... we are working hard as an organisation for alternative ways to ensure that our people are able to access our content and SABC Plus is one of those platforms."
