The National Enterprises Workers Union Ya Afrika (NEWUYA) is warning South Africans of a looming increase in the price of beer as workers at the United National Breweries enter the fifth week of strike action over wage disputes.
NEWUYA initiated industrial action over a month ago due to the employer's persistent failure to implement wage adjustments agreed upon in April 2021.
More than a hundred employees at the African beer manufacturing company have joined the strike, leading to notable reductions in production volumes in recent weeks and mounting pressure on the company.
"As we speak, they owe workers 26 months back pay."
- Phauwe Phosa, Secretary General – NEWUYA

VBS Mutual Bank chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi's explosive affidavit
An explosive affidavit by former VBS Mutual Bank chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi has significantly jeopardised the defence of the remaining accused.
The affidavit corroborates crucial allegations of gratification paid to EFF leadership Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu.
Matodzi's statement offers a clear, unequivocal account of the corruption and graft that led to the bank's downfall.
Modidima Mannya, Legal Analyst, emphasises the importance of the affidavit.
He says that for the plea and sentence agreement to be accepted, full disclosure was crucial, as it provided evidence implicating numerous other individuals.
Mannya anticipates that Matodzi will testify in upcoming proceedings.
"The affidavit alone is not sufficient, he will have to stand up in court and give evidence."
