CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape government's newly constituted Cabinet has endorsed the declaration of a provincial disaster following the severe impact of a series of cold fronts that recently hit the province.
Winde said that the Cabinet's go-ahead would allow for additional resources to respond to the damage caused by the storms.
"We have one month in which to produce the costing document, although we're still waiting on areas for the water to subside to get a real indication of which bridges and roads still need repair and which buildings still need repair."
Winde also thanked all those who had been providing disaster relief.
"These are NGOs, volunteers, as well as all of our officials, be they firefighters, disaster management, traffic police, mitigating the risks of this disaster."
