JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane says it can't pay the Menlyn Taxi Association the promised compensation for the Areyeng Bus route before it complies with the Municipal Finance Management Act.
Taxi drivers took to the streets of Tshwane to march to over compensation for the route taken by the Areyeng bus service.
The city’s Selby Bokaba said that there is no dispute between the city and the taxi association, but they cannot pay the drivers yet.
He said that the money has been set aside in a trust account.
"We need to follow section 33 which stipulates that any contract which the city enters into which is in excess of three years needs to subject to a public participation process and we still need to consult Treasury and the Co-operative Governance department."
