President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the appointment of Dr Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu as the new Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
Makhubu is set to take over from Edward Kieswetter, whose contract officially expires at the end of the month.
The President made the appointment following a unanimous recommendation from a specialised selection panel convened by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

Makhubu is a seasoned veteran within the organisation, having served as the SARS Deputy Commissioner for Taxpayer Engagement and Operations since 2023.
He brings a wealth of expertise to the role, supported by 17 years of senior leadership experience and a professional background that spans both the public and private sectors.
