JOHANNESBURG - As the Miss SA controversy continues to divide opinion, the Puebla International Literature Festival has booted South Africa from this year's celebration.
The festival's director, Ikenna Okeh, has released a statement rescinding SA's designation as the "country in focus" for this year's installment.
Okeh said the decision follows the recent backlash that the Miss SA pageant faced over contestant Chidimma Adetshina’s nationality.
The annual event, which hosts exceptional international and local authors, is slated to run between 4 and 6 October 2024 in Mexico.
