CAPE TOWN - Swartland Municipality's engineers are working around the clock to restore water and electricity supply to the community of Riverlands near Malmesbury.

The community was left without basic services due to the recent flooding that damaged municipal infrastructure.

Swartland Municipality spokesperson Heinrich Robertson says the team is also looking into what led to the collapse of the dams' walls.

"The area received a lot of rain, and now there's a very large dam still intact and still full of water due to two weeks we had rain and now yesterday we had more rain than anticipated, and to mitigate the risk the City of Cape Town along with Swartland municipality and a few other engineers they created a spillway of that dam."
