A Russian chess player is currently under investigation following allegations that she was caught on camera spraying a substance containing mercury on her opponent Umaiganat Osmanova's chessboard in an apparent attempt to poison her before a match last week.
Amina Abakarova faces a lifetime ban from chess and potential criminal charges.
Reports indicate that Osmanova began feeling unwell shortly after the incident, experiencing nausea and dizziness.
Security camera footage of the event prompted a police investigation into Abakarova's actions.
