AfriForum welcomes rejection of NERSA tariff hike appeal: ‘We need transparency’

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (NERSA) had planned to consider municipalities’ applications for tariff hikes without cost-of-supply studies.
AfriForum took this matter to court and the High Court ruled in their favour.

Nersa attempted to appeal this decision but the appeal was unsuccessful.
AfriForum has welcomed this court judgment and said it will benefit millions of consumers.
Mostert says municipalities have started to rely on selling electricity to generate revenue and says electricity should not be this costly.
“If there is transparency and accountability, then we can have a rational discussion, and stakeholders can understand what they are paying for. We are not in that situation.”
