CAPE TOWN - Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina has received a preliminary report into what led to the failure of three dams in Riverlands.
The farm dams breached earlier in August, causing damages to residents' homes and municipal infrastructure.
Majodina visited Swartland shortly after the incident and instituted an investigation into the cause of the collapses.
The preliminary report was finalised and handed over to Majodina on Monday, following a two-week investigation.
The Department of Water and Sanitation said that upon studying the report, the minister would make the findings public in due course.
The collapsed dams were privately owned farm dams.
While the Department of Water and Sanitation does not own the failed dams, it exercises a regulatory function over all the dams in South Africa.
The minister has praised the team of engineers for the swift action taken to avert further disaster in the area.
