JOHANNESBURG - A Presidential Protection Services officer has been sentenced by the Polokwane High Court to life imprisonment for murder.

Sergeant Mphela Mokoena was found guilty of murdering a civilian, Moloto Shongwe, in May 2021.

The deadly incident occurred on the evening of the day in question. It's believed the two had an altercation at the parking lot of a fast-food outlet in Biccard Street, Polokwane.

IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping: "Mokoena fired four shots using his service pistol, and one bullet hit Shongwe who was declared dead at the scene by paramedics."
