Stellenbosch Uni appoints Prof Deresh Ramjugernath as next Rector and VC

CAPE TOWN - Professor Deresh Ramjugernath has been appointed as the University of Stellenbosch’s next Rector and Vice-Chancellor.

Ramjugernath is set to assume office in April 2025, after Professor Wim de Villiers concludes his term.

Ramjugernath becomes the university’s 13th Rector, although the title of the post has changed numerous times over the last 100 years.

The professor has extensive learning and teaching experience while also serving on several company boards.

"I am immensely thankful to the Stellenbosch University council for having the confidence in my vision to take the institution to the next tier in being a world-class research-intensive university that is in service to society,” said Ramjugernath.
