DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is gearing up for its upcoming 36th elective conference.
The party was due to elect new leadership in August but was unable to due to what it only described as outstanding issues.
This included the inauguration and auditing of over 1,000 branches which was halted before the May general elections.
National spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, said the party will in September submit a conference roadmap to its highest decision-making body, the national council.
"And the party will make announcements in terms of the decision of the national council in October, so we are working now towards conference that is the primary focus of the party internally.”
Hlengwa said the party has in the meantime extended the term of office of the current leadership.
"The constitution allows for the term of office to be extended for a reasonable period."
