The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has been told to reconvene its abandoned provincial conference before the end of this month.

The ANC took the decision following a meeting with national officials where the party took stock of the conference that failed to sit over the weekend.

The party was forced to postpone its highly anticipated 10th provincial due to legal challenges.

The Eastern Cape ANC and PEC met with the party's national leaders at Luthuli House to discuss the abandoned conference.

The PEC says the national officials reaffirmed the ANC's commitment to the rule of law and justice following the court's instruction that it resolve its internal disputes.

The party has now directed that internal dispute processes be concluded and the conference be convened before the end of April, after following all the court proceedings currently underway.

The ANC said this decision is informed by the province's readiness for the conference and "the need to address circumstances beyond its control that led to the previous postponement".

The PEC also discussed ward delimitation and is waiting for national guidelines for the realignment of its structures as it prepares to kickstart local government candidate nomination processes.
