It can be very expensive to get someone in to do basic things around the house that could fit into the do-it-yourself category if you just made the effort.
Well, one woman who did this, has turned herself into the virtual DIY queen of South Africa.
Four years ago or so, Ndivhuwo Dlamini had never so much as even picked up a power tool.
Today, she is showing her hundreds of thousands of followers how to DIY with her platform Remedial DIY.
The 32-year-old mother of one says she was driven to learning these skills through economic necessity, when she found out the bed she wanted for her daughter would cost her R6 000 to buy.
"I said, no way am I going to spend that amount of money, which I did not have at that time. I decided to go online and see if there's something basic that I can start off with because I was really passionate about a specific design for my daughter's bed."
"Then I started, and the amazing part is that my first project was so beautiful!"

Dlamini says she was so excited that she had to tell friends and family about her success with her first DIY project.
It was when she was sharing the pictures with her loved ones that she had her aha! moment.
The self-starter, formerly a property professional, says as she was consuming tons of content on YouTube she realised there was nothing really relatable available online.
"The thing I wanted the most was the South African version of what I wanted to do but it was such a struggle... The content was all American or Canadian, and I wanted someone to tell me 'centimeters, not inches'!"
"I had to talk to myself and say 'you need to be confident', and the most important part for me is that this process sparked a passion inside of me."
