Top cop Masemola lauds police following ORTIA drug busts

JOHANNESBURG - Police top cop Fannie Masemola has lauded the vigilance of a multidisciplinary team behind numerous drug busts at the OR Tambo International Airport totalling R13 million.
In the past two months, at least ten alleged drug mules have been arrested at the airport.
The most recent arrest involved a 30-year-old woman who allegedly tried to smuggle drugs from São Paulo, Brazil.
An x-ray conducted at a nearby hospital revealed that she had swallowed small packets suspected to contain cocaine.
"Our intelligence is on the ground and our men and in blue are relentless in the pursuit to ensure that we clamp down on transnational organised crime," said police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe.
