JOHANNESBURG - Residents in Fleurhof have shut down the community in the south-west of Johannesburg.
They've blocked all entry and exit points during Tuesday morning’s peak traffic.
They are protesting over the lack of schools, a clinic, a police station, and a community hall.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD)’s Xolani Fihla said police were monitoring the situation.
"The situation is calm at the moment, and traffic is flowing with no impediment on Main Reef Road, but it is reported that all entrances and exits to Fleurhof are closed off to traffic.
"Police officials are present, monitoring the situation, and motorists are urged to exercise caution and avoid closures on Acacia Avenue and Helpmekaar Road."
PICS | Fleurhof planned shutdown - the community has said the outstanding construction of a police station, high school, clinic, and the issue of crime, has prompted the protest action.
