Fraud case against Booi and co-accused postponed to January

CAPE TOWN - The case against Democratic Alliance (DA) member and former Cape Town Human Settlements MMC, Malusi Booi, alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield and 24 others has been postponed by the Cape Town Magistrate's Court until January next year.

They are accused of being part of a criminal enterprise headed by Stanfield and his wife Nicole Johnson. They face 54 charges including murder, attempted murder, racketeering and fraud among others.

Booi and nine of his co-accused were arrested last month and are out on bail for their alleged involvement in a billion rand tender fraud within the city's Human Settlements directorate.

When the case eventually goes to trial at the Western Cape High Court, there'll be at least 50 accused people in the matter.

That's after the State indicated its intention to add 24 more people to the indictment.

"You'll find in some cases that the members were members of a gang and some were members of the enterprise, and they were working together which means their activities were overlapping," said the Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila.

All 26 accused will be back in court on January 31.
