JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Botswana President-Elect Duma Boko on the outcomes of the recent election.
Botswana's opposition party, Umbrella for Democratic Change Coalition has won the majority, marking a historic defeat for the Botswana Democratic Party, which has governed for 58 years.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi conceded defeat in the Wednesday election and said that his administration would begin to prepare handing over the reins to the new government.
Presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya: "The success of the election in our sister nation is an important and affirming demonstration of democratic maturity in our region and on our continent. As South Africa, we look forward to deepening our fraternal relations and cooperation with the Republic of Botswana, with outcomes that will benefit both our nations."
