DURBAN - Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) councillor Sikhumbuzo Dlamini has been elected as mayor of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Dlamini replaces party provincial chairperson, Thamsanqa Ntuli, who is now Premier of the province.
Dlamini had been acting in the post since Ntuli left to take up the provincial government post.
Council Speaker Siphesihle Mkhwanazi: "People of King Cetshwayo can have good hope that everything will be in position since we’ve got our mayor."
She said council will soon elect a deputy mayor to replace Dlamini.
"And we promise that we are going to fill all the vacant spaces which we have as a councillor, since Dlamini is now a mayor, we need to fill the vacant position of the deputy mayor."
