Joburg City Power said that it will cooperate with the Hawks as the unit investigates a series of questionable contracts, at the utility.

The Hawks pounced on the utility’s headquarters once again on Thursday, this time over a tender worth more than R60 million.

The contract was meant to deliver electricity transformers in December 2023, but insiders say that the equipment was never delivered.

This latest search and seizure forms part of the Hawks’ multilayered probe into numerous City Power contracts worth about half a billion rand.

EWN has seen a purchase order showing that Joburg City Power paid a contractor over R64 million for electricity transformers.

However, it is understood the contractor’s initial quotation was roughly half that amount.

The Hawks confirmed their investigation into City Power relates to possible violations of the Public Finance Management Act.

City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that the entity will comply with any requests made by the Hawks.

"The Hawks indicated that, should there be a need, they will request that we deliver certain laptops to their offices on Thursday next week so that they can look into them. '

The Hawks launched its multilayered investigation into City Power in November last year after receiving several reports of deep-rooted corruption.
