The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has given the African National Congress (ANC) seven days to re-appoint its deputy president, Kenny Kunene, to the City of Johannesburg’s mayoral committee.

The party gave the ultimatum after Kunene was cleared of wrongdoing after he was found at the Sandton home of Katiso "KT" Molefe when police showed up to arrest the businessman in July.

Kunene was removed from the mayoral committee by Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie, who instituted an independent investigation by a law firm, which found Kunene did nothing wrong.

Kunene is now calling for his reinstatement by Joburg Mayor Dada Morero.

"Now I am going back in, now that I have been cleared, we are saying that if I’m not appointed within seven days, all those who are in coalitions with the ANC, whether it’s provincial, whether it’s local whether it’s national, including our president, the minister of sports, arts and culture, we will then walk away out of the GNU, out of the GLU and out of the GPU."
