HONOR’s tech innovations set to transform Africa’s digital landscape
At this year’s Africa Tech Festival, CapeTalk’s John Maytham learned more about HONOR’s latest advancements and how they will impact Africa.
The Africa Tech Festival is the premier event for tech professionals, bringing together over 15 000 attendees, 400 speakers and 300 exhibitors to the Cape Town International Convention Centre. This created the perfect space for global tech leader HONOR to showcase their latest developments and the future of smartphones, also marking the company’s event debut as a Gold Sponsor.
The Afternoon Drive with John Maytham accompanied HONOR to Day 1 of the Africa Tech Fest, gaining valuable insight on HONOR’s Magic Series foldable smartphones and a range of AI-enhanced products. HONOR South Africa’s CEO Fred Zhou joined John Maytham to dive deeper into how these innovations are set to transform Africa’s digital landscape.

“When the foldable phone opens, it comes to about 8 inches, which is a similar size to a tablet," says Zhou. He mentions how work documents can be viewed better and how emails can be sent more optimally. On the entertainment side, the bigger screen can bring you a better experience, he says.
Zhou also recalled how in previous years, people didn’t like the idea of foldables because of the devices’ weight and bulkiness but notes how HONOR has managed to make their foldable smartphones slim and compact.
