JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water said that high demand and hot weather conditions were contributing to the slow recovery of its Commando system.
The system consists of three reservoirs, which supply areas south of Joburg, including Westbury, Claremont, and Emmerentia.

Households in the affected communities have been without water for several days now, with others having to contend with low water pressure.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Joburg Water's operations manager, Logan Munsamy, said the utility is addressing the water supply challenges.
"We instituted various interventions in place, some of them included throttling and closures of high demands areas, night closures of reservoirs, but you would notice that the recovery has been slow. One of the reasons recovery is slow on this system is demand has been high. So, we must appreciate that the weather conditions have been quite hot. That has contributed to the system taking a long to recover."
