One person arrested in connection with deadly Mpumalanga tavern shooting

JOHANNESBURG - One suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of eight people at a tavern in Mpumalanga.

Police said a gang-related shootout happened on Saturday at the outlet in Pienaar, outside of Mbombela.

Six people died on the scene, while the other two died in hospital.

The police's Jabu Ndubane said the suspect was arrested on Sunday night.

"The team managed to make a breakthrough, and during the suspect's arrest, a pistol with 13 [rounds of] live ammunition was confiscated. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon."
