JOHANNESBURG - A group of school pupils have escaped unharmed after their scholar transport was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Germiston, earlier on Wednesday morning.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police said that the driver of the scholar transport failed to engage the bus airbrake system timeously.
This led to the bus crashing into at least seven light motor vehicles in front of it.
Officials also added that the bus was privately operated from Ramaphosa, a nearby informal settlement and was heading to Katlehong High School.
The accident comes on the first day of the 2025 academic school year.
EMPD spokesperson, William Ntladi, said that the department continues to urge scholar transport drivers to practice caution on the roads.
"Fortunately, the children all escaped with no injuries and in those seven vehicles involved in the crash. Fortunately, as well, none of the occupants of those vehicles was injured. EMPD officials are investigating the matter."
