SONA 2025: Ramaphosa honours 14 SA troops who perished in DRC conflict

6 February 2025 | 18:32Delivering his 9th State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of these fallen heroes for a week from Friday.
CAPE TOWN - Driving inclusive growth and job creation, reducing poverty and tackling the high cost of living are among the government's priorities.
President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his 9th State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Thursday evening.
Acknowledging the many problems affecting South Africans and hashing out some of the government's plans to fix them.
However, Thursday evening's proceedings began with a moment of silence for the 14 South African soldiers who recently died in Goma, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"We gather here as we mourn the tragic death and devastating loss, of 14 South African soldiers, who were part of a mission to bring peace to the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.”
Ramaphosa explains how these fallen heroes will be honoured.
"Speaker I thank you, for getting us to honour these fallen heroes I have directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of these fallen heroes for a week starting from tomorrow [Friday] morning.”
