JOHANNESBURG - Former President Jacob Zuma is expected back in the Johannesburg High Court in his bid to privately prosecute President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In 2022, Zuma attempted to haul his successor before the criminal court, accusing him of being an accessory after the fact following the alleged leak of his medical details in a separate matter.
However, the high court set the matter aside in 2023.
It has remained on the roll, despite this, for the finalisation of Zuma's appeal process.
The Gauteng High Court in 2024 postponed Zuma's private prosecution bid to Thursday, where it was expected that the former head of state would furnish the court with the details of his appeal process.
After the matter was set aside in the high court, Zuma approached the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) and later, the Constitutional Court in an attempt to overturn the decision.
That bid came to an end on Monday when the Constitutional Court refused to grant Zuma condonation for the late application and found no reasonable prospects of success for leave to appeal.
This is expected to bring an end to the matter, as the apex court has the last say in every case.
It's expected that the former president will provide the status of the appeal process to the high court on Thursday.
