The White House recently shared a video online showing immigrants in shackles being readied for deportation from Seattle.
The footage includes the unsettling sound of handcuffs and chains clinking as they are pulled from a basket filled with other restraints and laid out on the airport tarmac.
The X post by the White House is titled 'ASMR: Illegal Alien Deportation Flight'.
ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, refers to the pleasurable tingling sensation some people experience when exposed to certain sounds, like whispering or tapping.
Some users on X expressed enjoyment, with one commenting, "ASMR haha love it!" and another saying, "Exactly what I voted for, treat criminals for what they are".
However, many others were deeply disturbed by the tone of the video.
One user remarked, "And you’re telling me this isn’t a fascist dictatorship? Making 'ASMR' about a human being being deported is beyond cruel. That’s some cartoon-type evil."
Another said, "No matter how you align politically, to find JOY in this is disgusting. I truly cannot understand how this is acceptable to people. Trump followers – honestly, truly, this is okay with you? Someone please stand up and say no, for God's sake!"
