UCT says students involved in disruptions on campus to be held accountable

CAPE TOWN - Protests at various universities this week led to lectures being cancelled.
Student debt and accommodation are among the issues raised by students.
Stellenbosch University management has issued a statement saying it had assured students that it was working on ways to assist students with outstanding fees who wanted to register for the new academic year.
The UCT council issued a statement confirming it had approved a proposal presented to it by the SRC and executive.
UCT spokesperson, Elijah Moholola, said that students involved in disruptions on campus would be held accountable.
"However, council was also clear that students who engaged in violence and disruptive acts in breach of the student code of conduct, as well as the interdict granted in May 2023 by the Western Cape High Court, must be held to account."
