JOHANNESBURG - Residents of a soon-to-be demolished building in Pretoria say they want government to find them accommodation in the city centre with equally cheap rent.
The Tshwane Municipality recently got a court order to demolish two multi-storey residential buildings on Luttig Road.
The municipality’s Bad Building's Committee visited the fully occupied complex on Thursday.
Live wires ran through the building, staircases with no guardrails, metal bars protruding from the bricks and caved-in ceilings.

That was the sight that greeted the bad buildings committee when it visited the soon-to-be demolished buildings on Luttig Road, Pretoria.
The buildings are fully occupied with residents estimating between 200 and 300 people living there.
Some residents who spoke to Eyewitness News anonymously, say they know the building is unsafe, however, it’s the only place in the city centre charging R2000 for rent.
The residents said most of them work in the city and they would not be able to afford the rent prices that would keep them living near their workplaces.
Court documents show the buildings are owned by George Asaba (Gabsa Consolidated Prop).
