947’s Robert Marawa catches up with veteran commentator Joe Hudla.
The renowned radio broadcaster has helped shape South African football commentary for more than three decades.
He is known for his distinct voice and unique take on football commentary.
Hudla explains that he happened into a career in commentary.
He initially interviewed for a job in human resources at the SABC.
“[One day] everyone had left and somebody [a commentator] had let them down… I said to them, “We cannot afford not to have that show on-air, let me try". That was one take and the rest is history.”

Despite facing heavy criticism in the early years of his commentary career, Hudla stood strong, improved his craft and continued to deliver.
He transitioned from television to radio, becoming a household name at Ukhozi FM.

Hudla was recently announced as the latest ambassador for Hollywood Bets.
