DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) official accused of stealing voting material during the general polls in 2024 returns to court on Wednesday morning.
Musawenkosi Mnikathi was an area manager in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, during the 2024 general elections.
MK Party supporters claim he was transporting ballot boxes with no police supervision.
In February, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court said Mnikathi had a case to answer to.
During the previous court appearance, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court dismissed an application of acquittal by the accused.
Mnikathi had filed an application for the court to withdraw the charges against him in this case.
However, the court said he had a case to answer to.
This is something the MK Party, which strongly believes the votes were rigged, welcomed.
The party believes Mnikathi was sent to halt the party from winning the elections.
The IEC has since maintained its stance that the elections were free and fair.
