When Tracey Lange heard how Bridges for Music, a non-profit organisation in Langa, empowers young creatives through music education, she found out more.

Kfm 94.5's Tracey Lange speaks to Yamkela Kasana, Marketing and Events Coordinator at Bridges for Music.

Listen below:

In 2024, Tracey started an initiative called Tracey Lange Cares (TLC) and it's all about empowerment and highlighting people, businesses and organisations making a positive impact in local communities.

So, when Tracey heard that a non-profit organisation rooted in Langa's township community called Bridges for Music empowers young creatives from underserved communities through music education, mentorship and access to the global music industry - she had to find out more.

Bridges for Music offers young creatives access to world-class music production, performance, and business training, helping aspiring artists develop skills and build sustainable music careers.

"The whole idea is to empower young creators from underserved communities and mostly students who can't afford to go and learn about music in music schools... So, it's specifically a sponsored program - we've got a talent development program at the academy and it's more about having a wholesome and 21st century education system in township communities," explains Kasana.

The programme focuses on three main pillars:

  • Mindfulness
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Music

"The most important aspect is mindfulness because in the world we live in now... We believe that as a creator and an artist, you lie at the vulnerable end of the spectrum. So, it's important to work with the inner foundation and make sure everyone's wellbeing is first set in order for them to be creative, be motivational and create impact within the community they come from," says Kasana.

"At Bridges, we really try to instil those values where people can learn how to be equal, to listen to each other's opinions, to share, and to create a safe space," notes Kasana.

Young creatives who are part of the programme are also connected with renowned musicians like Black Coffee, who stopped by recently, and industry professionals.

The organisation is for anyone with a mindset who wants to change their community and make a positive impact while being a catalyst for change through creatively using music.
