JOHANNESBURG - Power has been restored in Rabie Ridge, north of Johannesburg, after residents staged a protest, blockading roads and burning tyres.
City Power said it had managed to repair broken infrastructure that caused an outage in the area, bringing the lights back on.
Utility spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, dispelled allegations that the area was in the dark for two weeks, claiming the outage only lasted a day.
Mangena outlined that another contributing factor was recent wet weather that led to important electrical equipment being deeply submerged and damaged.
"There will be pockets where there will be trips or outages caused by bad weather or caused by vandalism or theft but there’s no truth in that we denied them electricity for two weeks."
