Communications department studying judgment after court halts analogue TV switch-off

JOHANNESBURG - Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi says the department will study a judgment barring the long-awaited analogue switch-off which was scheduled for next Monday.
On Thursday, the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria interdicted Malatsi from proceeding with steps to implement the switch-off of analogue signals pending the finalisation of a review application.

The court found that government failed to consult industry stakeholders on the deadline and that it was irrational.
Malatsi said that the department is considering its options.
We are currently studying the judgment together with legal representatives from the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to guide how best to explore our options going forward including consultations with Cabinet."
