JOHANNESBURG - Metro police have raised fresh concerns about pedestrian fatalities on freeways.
The latest safety warning comes after two pedestrians were struck by a car on the R21 northbound near OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday night.
It’s understood that the two unknown men were hit by a truck while crossing a busy road, killing both at the scene.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Thabiso Makgatho, cautioned road users on the big road networks.
"We urge pedestrians to use pedestrian bridges or cross at designated areas. Pedestrians are not allowed to cross or walk on the freeways."
