JOHANNESBURG - City of Joburg Mayor Dada Morero said 21 additional water trucks have been dispatched to Westbury, Coronationville and surrounding areas to ease ongoing water shortages.
This follows Joburg Water’s deployment of 15 water tankers, as the city works to restore the supply fully.
The city said it has also managed to stabilise water flow in areas including Kathada Park, but warns that water pressure is currently low.
Although Westbury residents said the initial 15 water tankers had brought some relief following weeks-long water shortages, the community had called on more tankers to be placed throughout the community.
Joburg Water has acknowledged the community’s demand; however, the utility has conceded that the need currently exceeds its supply capacity.
The additional water trucks, the city said on Sunday, have been deployed to Wards 82, 69 and 86 to alleviate the burden.
Meanwhile, the water utility said that while repairs to a burst water pipe in Brixton have been completed, residents are advised that the water supply may not return immediately as capacity gradually recovers.
