JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says United States (US) President Donald Trump's possible absence from the upcoming G20 leaders' summit in South Africa will offer global leaders an opportunity to focus on consolidating an economic recovery plan without distraction.
On Saturday morning, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that he was reluctant to attend the summit, again citing lies about land confiscation and a genocide against white people in South Africa.
In a statement, the EFF accused Trump of using South Africa as a scapegoat and criticised his role in destabilising the global economy.
EFF national spokesperson Sinawo Thambo has condemned the US president’s rhetoric and trade policies, calling them reckless.
"The EFF, we would like to tell the 'tariff wielding barbarian' that he would be lucky to still be president of the USA by the time the G20 Summit occurs in South Africa, following his recklessness and economic illiteracy which has plunged the US economy into a recession and launched them into a trade war with China and Europe."
