Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary general Bongani Mncwango has joined the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

IFP party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa has welcomed the move, calling it a good addition for the party.

Mncwango was removed as the MK Party’s SG with immediate effect in March and replaced with Sbonelo Nomvalo.

In June, he replaced Floyd Shivhambu, who vacated the position.

Former uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) Party secretary general Bongani Mncwango has joined the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

Mncwango has been welcomed by IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa, saying this is a good addition to the party.

Mncwango was removed as the MK Party’s SG with immediate effect in March and replaced with Sbonelo Nomvalo.

The IFP has expressed growth confidence as former MK Party secretary general Bongani Mncwango joins its ranks.  

The IFP said Mncwango joins the party at a critical time as it set its sight on the upcoming local government elections.  

It also said his political experience will be a boost.  

Since 2021, the IFP has won more than 45 by-elections in KwaZulu-Natal alone. It also runs several municipalities, which it snatched from the ANC in the 2021 local polls.  

Hlabisa announced Mncwango’s move to join the party on Wednesday.

“His expertise and strategic insight will significantly strengthen the IFP as we intensify our mobilisation efforts ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.” 

Hlabisa said he will also be welcoming new MK Party members in Estcourt this coming weekend.
