JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) is supporting the call for safer roads by launching the Hlokomela road safety campaign, geared towards the Easter long weekend in the Free State.
Last week, multi-disciplinary road safety campaigns were launched across provinces ahead of the annual Easter break.
SANTACO said the activation would focus on increasing compliance on one of the county's busiest travel routes during the period.
Spokesperson Rebecca Phala said that some of the key focus areas include promoting seatbelt use, combating driver fatigue and enhancing law enforcement visibility in high-accident zones.
"The Free State, especially the N3, plays a critical role as a connector between provinces like KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Unfortunately, areas such as Warden often lack consistent law enforcement visibility, which contributes to a higher rate of road accidents, and so, as a result of that, our Hlokomela campaign aims to change that by showing up where lives are most at risk."
