JOHANNESBURG - In preparation for the Easter long weekend, multi-disciplinary policing will be conducted in Johannesburg to ensure that residents and businesses comply with the law.
This will include checking for applicable approvals or licensing and inspecting special events approved by the city's operations committee.
Emergency services are further warning residents living near river streams to be wary of flooding following a storm that ripped through parts of the city on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said: "We are pleading with our faith-based organisations who might be tempted to conduct baptisms and cleansing rituals to ensure the safety of the congregants while conducting baptisms and cleansing rituals. Try and avoid conducting these kinds of rituals at night as the risk is much higher."
He added that EMS teams were on standby for any emergencies that may occur this weekend.
"From our side as the City of Johannesburg, we remain on high alert throughout the Easter weekend, monitoring all seven regions of the city for any fire, water-related emergencies which might occur," said Mulaudzi.
