JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department is urging residents to stay away from flooded areas during Easter religious activities.
Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has issued a plea, asking communities not to use waterlogged spaces for gatherings, warning of the dangers of drowning and difficult rescue operations.
Despite the warning, she says emergency medical services have been deployed to high-risk areas to ensure a quick response in the event of flooding or water-related incidents.
The MEC is also calling on the public to report any emergencies immediately by contacting emergency services.
"This is the team that we keep on reskilling them so that they are capable of any eventuality that can happen in the province and even nationally, because we have been assisting other provinces, and we have been assisting Sadag when there are incidents."
