CAPE TOWN - With World Earth Day just around the corner, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company is encouraging visitors to reconnect with nature and do so responsibly.
Earth Day, observed annually on 22 April, is a global call to action for environmental protection.
The company said that Table Mountain was the perfect place to celebrate the day, but reminded hikers not to feed wildlife, and to avoid littering, as it posed a danger to the ecosystem.
Visitors are also encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and containers to reduce waste.
Managing director of the cableway company, Wahida Parker, said that actions on the mountain today would shape how others experienced it in the future.
"We have initiatives such as ensuring that we offset our carbon footprint, we recycle, we reuse, we use water very consciously, having come out of the drought from a couple of years ago, we have become acutely aware of how important it is to conserve water."
