JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern Cape Transport Department says the drop in road accidents over the Easter weekend is due to the increased removal of drunk drivers from the province’s roads.
So far, around 500 intoxicated motorists have been arrested since the start of the long weekend.

Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose says road safety operations will continue for the rest of the holiday period and has urged officers to remain vigilant.
“The MEC for transport and community safety has applauded these officers for a job well done and urged them to continue in respecting their oath of office.”
