JOHANNESBURG - Police are clearing debris from the Hennops River near a low-lying bridge in Centurion as they comb through the area searching for more evidence into the deaths of three officers.

While they've discovered a large metal object during Thursday morning's search, they have not revealed whether it belongs to the white VW Polo that the cops were traveling in when they went missing.

The bodies of constables Cebekhulu Linda, Keamogetswe Buys and Boipelo Senoge were recovered from the river this week.

Search and rescue members are waist deep in the Hennops River, which is still flowing quite strongly following heavy rains last week.

Using heavy machinery with a winch attached to it, police are trying to clear debris to access what they've described as a large metal object.

The white VW Polo in which three officers from the Free State were travelling remains a vital piece of evidence in their deaths.

The search continues.
