JOHANNESBURG - Large parts of the Tshwane metro have been left without power after a fire broke out as a result of cable theft at its Theresa Park secondary substation.
On Thursday, the substation suffered vandalism and cable theft, resulting in a blaze inside the substation.
The metro said that the affected areas would suffer a prolonged power outage due to the complexity of the repairs to be carried out.
City spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, said most areas were expected to have power restored by Sunday.
"Tswane's teams of technicians is working around the clock to energise the areas that are fed by the Theresa Park secondary substation. Once the team makes considerable progress with the repairs, they will gradually restore power supply to the affected areas. The following areas remain affected: Heatherdale, Clarina, Theresa Park, Nina Park, Eldoratte, Pretoria North, Florauna, Dorandia, Tileba."
