DURBAN - The Student Representative Council (SRC) at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in the Eastern Cape is complaining about delays in the murder case of student Sisonke Mbolekwa.

Mbolekwa was shot and killed during a protest at the Mthatha Campus in April.

On Friday, the bail hearing of the man accused of murder and attempted murder in the matter was postponed due to a power outage in the court.

The university’s SRC has bemoaned the latest delay.

SRC secretary Sakhumzi Khambule said: "We are not happy at all with the decision that has been taken by the court just because the issue of electricity can be sorted at any time."

He said that even though they offered a solution, their request was not accepted.

"We have offered the petrol for the back-up system so that the electricity can operate in this court, but they told us that the procedure doesn’t allow it, of which we don’t understand why a state institution can run out of electricity for almost three to four days."

The matter returns to court on Tuesday.
