KZN Human Settlements collaborating with private sector to support flood-affected learners in Umlazi

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Human Settlements MEC, Siboniso Duma, has announced that collaborative efforts with the private sector are in effect to provide additional support to learners affected by the evacuations in uMlazi.
This after 216 community members at the H-section in the area were evacuated after their homes collapsed as a result of flooding.
The support from private entities will include bursaries and school uniforms for learners who lost their belongings in the ordeal.
On Friday, the department successfully moved at least 144 residents to a self-catering accommodation centres, as a temporary measure.
Spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, said efforts to secure land for permanent relocation of flood victims were underway.
"The MEC has announced that a bus and a truck loaded with the furniture of residents from H-section Umlazi will depart for the newly acquired self-catering accommodation that has been arranged for families that have had their houses collapsing and destroyed by the prolonged rainfall."
